Social media

People who know me would probably describe me as old school. Embarrassingly so. To put it into perspective, I spend about thirty minutes on my phone each day (most of those minutes on calls with family members). I still carry around a paper calendar at all times, and my grandpa convinced me to create a Facebook account. Something I barely know how to use. All those social media platforms are great. Fantastic. Brilliant. Original. But they're not for me.
For me, dealing with social media is a bit like trying to carve out my heart with a rusty spoon. In other words, I don't like it. It's good to push myself out of my comfort zone, sure, but if getting the message across could be done through something I'm actually comfortable with, I will do that.
I might not like apps, but I still think an online presence is important. I have been drawing for even longer than I've been writing. For that reason, having a portfolio has always been part of my process, something that has to have an online presence. Back when I had to display my portfolio, I chose to do it via a simple website. Compared to those bazillion different apps, I feel comfortable with a website. It's like a paper calendar. Simple. Something I know how to handle. My cup of tea. If I signed up for those apps, I'd be unable to handle it and struggle even more to feel like I could be myself.
So, I'll stick with something on my level instead of swearing about trying to find out how a tweet works. As I said, all those apps are all great. Awesome. Terrific. Brilliant. But they're not for me.
